Community Education Assistance Program

Policy

This program is administered by the Community Education Assistance Committee and is open to community members and PRN Harrison Memorial Hospital employees. (Full- or part-time employees should refer to the HMH Tuition Assistance Program.)
The program offers financial assistance loans to area students pursuing healthcare professions with the goal of returning as licensed professionals to Harrison Memorial Hospital. It is designed to address unmet financial needs and will cover up to 80% of the cost for books and tuition at an approved, accredited college, university, or technical program.

How To Apply

Interested students may request an application from the CEA Coordinator. Applicants must submit:

  • A completed application form

  • Most recent transcripts

  • Letter of acceptance from a qualified school or allied health career program

  • Verification of financial need
    Next steps:

  • Preliminary interview with a subcommittee

  • If recommended, a full interview at the next CEA Committee meeting (held regularly in July, December, and as needed)

  • The Committee will notify the student within one week of the meeting.

  • If approved, a contract is drafted and signed by the student and CEA Coordinator.

  • Funds are then dispersed by check.

Participating in the Program

  • At the end of each semester, students must submit their latest grades, charges for the upcoming semester, and information on any financial aid received.

  • Students must maintain a cumulative “C” average (minimum 2.0 GPA) to remain eligible.

  • A new contract is signed for each disbursed check.

Completing the Program

  • Upon graduation, licensed graduates are encouraged to apply to Harrison Memorial Hospital.

  • If hired full-time, graduates receive a regular salary plus a work credit equivalent to $200 per month worked full-time (prorated for part-time hours).

  • Graduates have 6 months to gain employment at HMH.

  • If no position is obtained or if the student leaves the program or employment early, the loan must be repaid within 30 days.

  • Payment plans require a 5% down payment within 30 days and minimum monthly payments of $200 until paid in full.

  • Students are responsible for any legal fees related to debt collection.
