Advanced Care for High Blood Pressure

Harrison Memorial Hospital offers comprehensive care for patients with high blood pressure, from ongoing hypertension management to advanced treatment options for patients whose blood pressure remains difficult to control.

HMH offers a Hypertension Clinic each day, providing patients with access to specialized cardiovascular care focused on evaluating, monitoring and managing high blood pressure.

For appropriate patients, HMH also offers renal denervation (RDN), an innovative, minimally invasive procedure designed to help lower high blood pressure.

Renal Denervation

Renal denervation is a minimally invasive treatment option for certain patients with high blood pressure.

High blood pressure can be influenced by overactive nerves surrounding the kidneys. Renal denervation targets these nerves to help reduce the excessive nerve activity that can contribute to high blood pressure.

HMH was the first hospital in Central Kentucky to offer the Symplicity Spyral™ renal denervation procedure.

How Does Renal Denervation Work?

During the procedure, a physician inserts a thin catheter through an artery and guides it to the arteries leading to the kidneys.

Controlled energy is delivered to calm the overactive nerves surrounding the kidneys that can contribute to high blood pressure. Once the procedure is complete, the catheter is removed, leaving no permanent implant behind.

The Symplicity Spyral™ renal denervation system is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as an adjunctive treatment for high blood pressure.

Who May Be a Candidate?

Renal denervation may be an option for patients whose high blood pressure remains difficult to control despite lifestyle changes and blood pressure medications.

The HMH Cardiology team can evaluate patients to determine whether renal denervation may be an appropriate treatment option.

HMH offers a Hypertension Clinic each day for patients who need additional support managing their blood pressure. Dr. Yaz Daaboul, HMH Cardiologist and the HMH Cardiology Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) work with patients to evaluate, monitor and manage hypertension and determine the treatment approach that best meets their needs.
