Leadless Pacemaker

Harrison Memorial Hospital offers the AVEIR™ Leadless Pacemaker System, a minimally invasive option for treating certain abnormal heart rhythms.

Unlike traditional pacemakers, a leadless pacemaker is placed directly inside the heart without traditional pacing leads (wires) or a chest incision.

What Is a Leadless Pacemaker?

A pacemaker helps regulate the heartbeat when the heart is beating too slowly or has certain abnormal rhythms.

Traditional pacemakers typically use a device implanted under the skin of the chest with wires, called leads, that connect to the heart. The AVEIR™ Leadless Pacemaker System uses a small device placed directly inside the heart, eliminating the need for traditional leads.

How Does a Leadless Pacemaker Work?

During a minimally invasive procedure, the leadless pacemaker is delivered to the heart through a catheter inserted into a blood vessel.

Once positioned inside the heart, the pacemaker monitors the heart’s rhythm and delivers electrical stimulation when needed to help maintain an appropriate heartbeat.

Because the device is placed inside the heart, there is no traditional chest incision or visible pacemaker pocket.
