Laboratory Services

The HMH Laboratory Department provides comprehensive, high-quality diagnostic testing and lab screenings with prompt results and compassionate service. Fully accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP)—the gold standard for laboratory accreditation—HMH’s lab is the only CAP-accredited laboratory in the region.

Convenient Access

The outpatient laboratory is located on the first floor, just to the right after exiting the hospital main lobby.
Hours of Operation:

Monday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Saturday: 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

The laboratory is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and special arrangements can be made in advance to meet patient needs.

All screenings and lab work require a provider’s order to be completed.

• CBC (Complete Blood Count)
• CMP (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel)
• BMP (Basic Metabolic Panel)
• PT (Prothrombin Time) – Monitoring for patients on blood thinners
• Thyroid Function Testing
• Cancer Markers – Including prostate and colon cancer indicators
• Lipid Panel – HDL, LDL, and cholesterol screening
• Urinalysis
• Employment Drug Screening
• DNA Collection
• Molecular Testing
• Paternity Testing Collection
• Additional testing in chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank, serology microbiology and molecular.

Most in-house test results are returned to your provider within 24 hours.

Laboratory Staff

Our team includes:

• Phlebotomists, trained professionals who collect blood and specimen samples and manage the clerical and registration aspects of each visit.
• Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) – Associate degree-trained professionals certified to perform diagnostic testing.
• Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) – Bachelor degree-trained and nationally certified professionals who perform complex lab tests and analysis.
• MLTs and MLSs are trained in hematology, chemistry, blood banking, microbiology, quality control, and instrument calibration to ensure accurate and reliable results. Accuracy is continually monitored through proficiency testing and quality measures.

Pathology and Cytology Services

HMH partners with Pathology and Cytology Laboratories, Inc. (PCL) in Lexington, KY.
The HMH Laboratory Medical Director. PCL provides expert services in:

• Cytopathology
• Hematopathology
• Neuropathology
• Gastrointestinal Pathology
• Clinical Laboratory Consultation

PCL is also accredited by the College of American Pathologists, the American Society of Cytology, and the Health Care Financing Administration.
