HMH Auxiliary donates funds to purchase equipment for staff education

The Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) Auxiliary had another successful year in 2021.

In March 2022, the HMH Auxiliary purchased the SimNewB newborn patient simulator for nursing and physician education. The advanced life support manikin provides a realistic training experience allowing staff to practice skills and participate in interactive scenarios.

“The obstetrics department is very excited about the gift from the HMH Auxiliary,” says Traci Taylor, HMH Chief Nursing Officer. “The use of this new teaching tool provides staff with opportunities to experience scenarios within a safe, supervised setting. The teaching method will promote patient safety and optimize outcomes of care.”

The funds for the equipment are generated from the HMH Auxiliary Gift Shop and fundraising events. All proceeds go directly to HMH for the patients from the community. In 2021, the fundraising events raised $17,000 and the HMH Auxiliary Gift Shop earned $20,000. Since 2012, the HMH Auxiliary has donated $371,092 for patient equipment and staff education.

“HMH is extremely blessed to have such a dedicated group of volunteers,” says Dr. Stephen Toadvine, HMH Chief Executive Officer. “Even through the pandemic, the members continued to support the mission of HMH. They are true assets to this organization, and our facility is better supported through all of their efforts.”

The HMH Auxiliary is comprised of 56 members who volunteer time to the facility. Volunteers are always welcomed. If you are interested in becoming an HMH Auxiliary member, please contact Theresa Philpott, at 859-588-2804.
