Harrison Memorial Hospital awarded Accreditation from The Joint Commission

Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for hospital Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. HMH has maintained this tradition of accreditation since 1973.

HMH underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review from June 13-16, 2023. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with the hospital standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management, and rights and responsibilities of the individual and more.

“As a healthcare accreditor, The Joint Commission works with healthcare organizations across care settings to inspire safer and higher quality of care that is more equitable and compassionate,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “Through collaborating on innovative solutions and evidence-based resources and tools, The Joint Commission helps drive improvement while maintaining accountability through our leading survey methods and standards. The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews. HMH achieved accreditation with a compliance at 98.5% of the nearly 1500 Joint Commission Elements of Performance and 100% of the National Patient Safety Goals.

“At HMH, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care to our patients. Achieving and maintaining The Joint Commission Accreditation is a testament to our dedication to quality and safety,” said Dr. Stephen Toadvine, HMH CEO. “At the conclusion of the visit, the surveyors were impressed with the employees’ eagerness to learn and genuine concern for our patients.  This accreditation reaffirms our commitment to excellence and our mission to provide exceptional healthcare services to our community.”
