Alyssa Mayo joins HMH Behavioral Health Services staff
Harrison Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Alyssa Mayo, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to the HMH Behavioral Health Services Clinic. Mayo joins Cathy Messinger, APRN, in providing comprehensive behavioral health services to the area.
Mayo earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky, and a Master of Science in Nursing, specializing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), from Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a PMHNP.
She previously worked as a registered nurse at HMH in the Medical/Surgical Department and Kentucky Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Acute Care Department. In addition, she worked as a registered nurse in cardiac telemetry at the University of Kentucky HealthCare – Good Samaritan and Saint Joseph Hospital. Also, she was a registered nurse at The Ridge Behavioral Health System in the youth and adolescent services patient care areas.
An APRN is a registered nurse who has completed an advanced graduate-level education program and has passed a national certification examination in order to practice in one of four APRN roles (clinical nurse specialist, nurse midwife, nurse practitioner and registered nurse anesthetist).
As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Mayo has advanced training to diagnose and treat patients in regards to behavioral health conditions.
The HMH Behavioral outpatient clinic offers:
- Initial mental status and behavioral health assessment
- Individual and family psychotherapy, which includes education and treatment
- Medication management
- Referral for counseling for adults and children
- Assess the need and arrange for inpatient treatment.
She specializes in both adult and pediatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, behavioral disorders and other mental health illnesses.
HMH Behavioral Health Services recently relocated to its new location at 127 KY Highway 32 West (former Sports Unlimited building) on March 10.
