HMH offers post-COVID-19 lung assessments
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a growing population of individuals recovering from acute SARS-CoV-2 infection. Reports suggest that following infection, many novel coronavirus patients will experience lingering deficits in pulmonary functioning, which can cause diminished health and quality-of-life issues. Although the long-term effects of COVID-19 are still unknown, the HMH Physician Group: Pulmonary Services is now providing post-COVID-19 lung assessments.
Dr. Srinadh Annangi, HMH Pulmonologist, is conducting assessments on post-COVID-19 patients for long-term damage. This assessment is available to anyone who was diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past, regardless of whether his or her symptoms were nonexistent, mild or moderate. The assessment begins with an appointment with Dr. Annangi. Based on his initial assessment, additional testing may be ordered to give the patient a complete picture of his or her overall health. For those whose assessment uncovers long-term issues, therapies can be administered to assist with recovery. All testing will be conducted at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
“As this virus continues to unfold, scientific research evolves daily. As physicians and specialists, we are still learning about it each day,” said Annangi. “By conducting a complete lung assessment, these patients can get a truer picture of the damage it may have caused. Once that is determined, we’re able to design a treatment plan to continually monitor their lung health and provide therapies to improve overall lung functioning. Improved lung functioning means a higher overall quality of life,” he said.
