Mike Rutland joins HMH Senior Leadership Team

Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) is pleased to announce the promotion of Mike Rutland to Chief Information Officer.

Rutland, who joined HMH last year, brings over 35 years of experience in financial analytics, clinical analytics and information technology. In his new role, he will lead the hospital’s IT and Clinical Information Technology (CIT) teams, ensuring systems and infrastructure meet the evolving demands of healthcare delivery. He will support HMH’s ongoing efforts to optimize pay-for-performance models, develop insightful analytics, strengthen IT security, implement innovative clinical systems—particularly those incorporating artificial intelligence—and meet federal requirements that enhance patient connectivity and access.

“Through our information technology systems, hospitals are facing ever-changing demands to enhance healthcare delivery,” said Dr. Kathy Tussey, HMH Chief Executive Officer. “Not only must we provide excellent bedside care, but we must also advance technologically to meet the needs of today’s patients. I know Mike will lead us forward with strength and vision, supported by our outstanding IT, CIT, and analytics teams.”

Previously, Rutland served as Director of Decision Support at HMH, where he coordinated data-driven solutions to improve financial performance, daily operations, patient outcomes, and long-term planning. He provided analytical expertise and worked with stakeholders on strategic initiatives to produce measurable, sustainable results. His work helped establish accountability and identify best practices to replicate success across the organization.

Before joining HMH, Rutland served for 11 years as Associate Vice President of Analytics at Baptist Health System Kentucky and Indiana, where he developed and implemented analytic strategies to optimize revenue, control cost, and improve patient outcomes. He also implemented advanced data analytics tools and process improvement plans.

For 17 years prior, he held the role of Director of Decision Support at Baptist Health Lexington, where he collaborated closely with executives to evaluate business ventures, supported hospital-wide initiatives with financial, clinical, and operational data, and created tools for real-time performance insights.

A native of Mississippi, Rutland holds a Bachelor of Professional Accountancy from Mississippi State University and a Master of Business Administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA).

He and his wife, Julie, have four adult children: Hunter, Mason, Austin, and Abby. In his spare time, Rutland enjoys golf, home improvement projects, and automobile restoration.

Please join us in congratulating Mike on this well-deserved promotion. HMH is proud to have him leading the charge in this vital area of our organization.
