HMH radiology receives ACR accreditation in MRI Services

Harrison Memorial Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of reaccreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). MRI is a non-invasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts, assisting physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. The program is accredited for the Open-Bore Siemen’s Magnetom Espree for adult and pediatric patients.
 

Chen and Merkley join HMH Medical Staff

Gastroenterologists, An-Yu Chen, M.D. and Scott Merkley, M.D., have joined the medical staff at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Chen is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He provides services in small bowel capsule endoscopy, colonoscopy with biopsy, polypectomy, stricture dilation and more. He also treats liver disease, including hepatitis C and hepatitis B, biliary disease, GERD, inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease testing and management.

HMH KidTown Child Development Center Opens New Facility

Harrison Memorial Hospital opened its new HMH KidTown Child Development Center in November with an official ribbon-cutting on December 7, 2021. The new center was made possible by a $1.5 million gift from The James A. and Martha R. Brown Charitable Foundation, Inc. The new 10,075-square-foot building is located on the HMH campus.

HMH Acquires New Low-Dose SCENARIA 128-Slice CT Imaging System

Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) has added Fujifilm Healthcare Americas’ SCENARIA View lower-dose 128-slice Computerized Tomography (CT) imaging system to its list of diagnostic offerings.

Dr. David Alexander joins HMH Medical Staff

David Alexander, M.D., has joined the medical staff at Harrison Memorial Hospital. An otolaryngologist treats conditions of the ear, nose and throat as well as performs head and neck surgeries.

Dr. Alexander graduated with his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC in 2010. He earned his medical degree from University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Lexington, KY, in 2014.  In 2019, he completed his residency in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery from University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, Birmingham, AL.

Dr. Alberto Laureano joins HMH Medical Staff

Alberto Laureano, M.D., has joined the medical staff at Harrison Memorial Hospital. An otolaryngologist treats conditions of the ear, nose and throat as well as performs head and neck surgeries.

Dr. Laureano graduated with his undergraduate degree from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in 1983. He earned his medical degree from The Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA in 1987.  In 1993, he completed his residency in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery/allergy from Southern Illinois University in Springfield, IL.

Dave Mellett retires from HMH

On August 28, Dave Mellett, HMH Chief Financial Officer, will retire after more than seven years of service at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
 
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Mellett began his career at HMH in January 2014. Prior to joining HMH, Mellett was the CFO with Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa.
 
“For the last 30 years, I have worked in healthcare finance throughout the South and MidWest. When I came to HMH, I hoped this would be my final position before retiring,” he said.
 

Lair named Chief Financial Officer at Harrison Memorial Hospital

Peggy Lair has been named the new Chief Financial Officer at Harrison Memorial Hospital. Lair will succeed David Mellett, who has announced his retirement. Mellett will stay through August 27, 2021, to ensure an efficient transition.

Lair will be responsible for the organization’s financial planning, analysis of financial performance, revenue cycle performance, accounting, and regulatory financial reporting.  She will also have oversight of the department of Health Information Management.  

HMH Urges Patients to Schedule Cancer Screenings

Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) has joined a nationwide effort to encourage patients to resume appropriate screening to detect cancer early.
 

HMH Physician Group: Primary Care chosen to participate in Kentucky Diabetes Learning Collaborative

The HMH Physician Group: Primary Care practice was chosen to participate in the Kentucky Diabetes Learning Collaborative (DLC) funded by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The practice was chosen by UK Healthcare’s Regional Extension Center, the Kentucky Department of Public Health and the Kentucky Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. The HMH Physician Group: Primary Care office was one of 10 practices chosen for the collaboration. The project will begin in May of 2021.
